The U.S. District Court and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California will conduct a local competition to select finalists for the circuit-wide competition. Local contest winners in each category will receive prizes of $1,500 for 1st place, $750 for 2nd place and $500 for 3rd place. To be eligible to compete in the local contest, students must reside in one of these counties: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Fresno, Glenn, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Lassen, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tulare, Tuolumne, Yolo or Yuba.
