LOCAL CONTEST: WESTERN DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington will conduct preliminary judging for this contest. The top three local contest winners in the essay and video competitions will receive prizes of $1,000 for 1st place, $750 for 2nd place, and $500 for 3rd place. If there is a tie, the district court will award up to two duplicate awards in 1st place, 2nd place or 3rd place. The district court will also select a total of 10 Honorable Mentions, five essays and five videos, and each student will receive a total of $200 except if the Honorable Mention for the video category is a team of two or three students, then the students in the team will receive a total of $200 equally divided among all students in the team.  

 

The top three winners in the local competition will advance to compete in the Ninth Circuit contest. All winners and honorable mention recipients will be invited to a reception at the courthouse in their honor. To be eligible to compete in the local contest, students must reside in one of these counties: Clallam, Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, San Juan, Skagit, Skamania, Snohomish, Thurston, Wahkiakum or Whatcom.
